Trying to get the Lemons car together. Went through the cage today and surprise! the cage will no longer pass tech like it did in 2011. First issue: New rule says that door bars must be a minimum of 7.5" apart at both ends including the width of the bars. I don't have that...

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

The bigger issue though is the rear stays, they're supposed to terminate directly into a spreader plate, currently they terminate into a strut bar that is welded to spreader plates that are in all likelihood too small anyways.

Oh and the car won't stop overheating after like 4 laps, installing a new (read: used) radiator tomorrow. Racecars are supposed to be fun right?

we had to update our rear stays when the rules changed. 'Twas a bitch. You've got me paranoid about the door bars. Gonna check them after the Indycar race. I spent a good part of th day at Pull A Part getting bits and got the clutch bolted to the motor, goes in tomorrow.

Where you racing?

MSR Houston in November. I've emailed John Pagel about the door bars, I'm hoping I can just run an additional bar from the front hoop to where the first upright bar I have is, in essence creating a mini X style bar setup. Rears stays are gonna suck though, I've got to find a good builder who won't fuck up the main hoop, really don't want to rebuild the entire cage.
Where you racin'? What're you runnin'?

Kershaw with our 1991 Escort at the end of September. 6th race for the hooptie. Good luck with the exception to the rules. I would imagine you would be ok, with an extra bar and maybe some corner plates.

With the exception of the rear stays the cage is super solid and overbuilt. Hopefully they'll see common sense and realize that having me gut and replace the door bars will make the cage weaker not stronger because of additional welds/grinding to the main hoops
